Dr Who, I presume? ... plus bonus math quiz!
I'll try to write something about our trip to Taiwan tomorrow and leave Singapore to Kelly for later... there's more pressing matters to report.
The new Dr. Who arrives today for a visit of the office and some locations where work is being done. Part of the media blitz that is underway here as the anniversary of the tsunami approaches.
I will actually be giving a presentation to him, and the crew about the database and application that I'm responsible for. Not sure that I can make it suitably impressive though... I mean, it's no magic phone box, is it?!
Of course, you may also know him better as the bad guy in Gone in 60 Seconds, or the bad guy in 28 Days Later, actually, I'm sure only McLeod knows who Christopher Eccleston is by name.
Math Quiz
Visited "Planet Ice" in Medan on the way back from vacation to check out the ice rink. Chatted with the local staff in broken Indonesian and English.
Cost of a flight for 2 from Banda Aceh to Medan: 1,000,000 Rp
Cost of renting the ice to ourselves for 2 hours: 800,000 Rp
Cost of public skating for 2 hours, rather than renting the ice, with the other 5 people in the city that skate: 60,000 Rp
Cost of a hotel nearby: 500,000 Rp
Playing stick & puck in the middle of a mall in Indonesia: Priceless!!
Basically, for less than a week's per diem, we can go skating.
Q1: Obviously, the question is not should we do this, because, clearly, we have to. The question is... how often? Every weekend, every other weekend?
Q2: We could also fly in for the day, skate for a couple hours, and then fly back. Is that too "Elvis" for a couple of Canadians lost in Indonesia? Could we "work from home" one day and skip town? Is it worth the extra expense in the hotel to skate two days?

So, you were right there beside him and could have gone down in history as the man who pantsed Dr. Who?
