Is that a refridgerator on your head or are you happy to see me?

Things seen carried on people's heads... on the street, at intersections or in the markets... usually by women

• buckets filled with bags of water for sale
• huge trays of bananas, plantains, ground-nuts
• huge trays of water bottles filled with natural honey
• huge trays of plantain chips
• trays of pinapples or oranges
  
• trays of fresh fish (I hope)
  
• cold drinks, in a bag with ice to keep them cool
• two crates of tomatoes - and it looked liked she was maxed out on the weight she could handle
• Once at a stop for road-works, a woman had so many pineapples on her tray, she needed help to get them from the ground to her head... and then proceeded to try to see them to the people waiting in line
  

And non-perishable items, such as

• metre high piles of t-shirts or pieces of cloth
• various and sundry flags and whistles in the Ghana flag colours (for African Cup)
• what appeared to be a week's laundry
• dvd players - stack of 5 or 6
• suitcases for sale (and once, our suitcase was carried for us like this to the car)
  
• one boot (he was carrying shoes for sale in his hands)
• a fridge - yep, not quite full size, but a small kitchen fridge was carried by a woman down a street in a market area that we were strolling through

And not only do they carry these things, they move around other people carry similar loads in tight spaces, and do it gracefully. Amazing.

Hard to say 'Govan's getting heavy' these days without feeling like a first world pansy :)
